Basketball superstar Michael Jordan once said, “Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence win championships”. Michael is a rare talent and no one can deny it. He made miracles, brought home a series of prestigious awards, and when he is together with his teammates, his superstar career is even brighter.

Not only in sports but we also work as a team in other aspects of life. If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together. With Rewire Your Brain, let's explore the GRPI model - the key to success in teamwork.

So how do you apply the GRPI Model to your team?

I. Set common goals

In this step, you need to define:

  • Whether the goal has been clearly described, we can refer to the SMART model to set goals.
  • Make it public to members and make sure all members understand the importance of goals and metrics.

II. Determine the role of each member

You must have encountered a situation where the idea was presented: the whole group discussed a lot, but then the idea was abandoned because no one was implementing and taking responsibility, or the job was asked for but no one took the initiative of doing it. Therefore, we need to define the role of each team member. One useful tool for us here is the RACI matrix.

Example of the use of RACI Matrix

III. Teamwork process

Teamwork processes play a very important role because this is the basis for members to coordinate with each other. The process point outs:

  • Work coordination process.
  • Methods of information exchange in each specific case.

Besides, don't forget to take the time to review the process and make improvements to match the actual situation of your teamwork.

IV. The interaction between the members

In the process of people working with people, there will inevitably be problems related to emotional states that affect them. So, besides the "hardware", pay attention to "software" - the relationship & interaction between members. Let's take a serious look at:

  • Are the members trusting each other?
  • Are there hidden conflicts?

If you are a leader, create an environment for members to communicate, and raise their voices to understand each other better.

So is your team using the GRPI model yet? If you are, then you are having the perfect key to open the door to your team's success, and if not, then this Rewire Your Brain article is going to help you a lot. Hope you and your team will soon achieve the results wanted.
