I studied Bachelor of Physics and Mathematics & Statistics at the same time. After that, with lots of determination and effort, I achieved a PhD in the same field at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU). During my studies, I participated in multi-disciplinary projects such as physics, mathematics and statistics, securities finance, and modeling the connection between science and technology. The industry orientation has given me opportunities to be exposed to many areas of knowledge such as processing and analyzing data; building and evaluating models in accordance with setting assumptions. That's why I chose to pursue Data Science – which is closest in nature to my major of Natural Science.  

 

I utilized all my free time to participate in research projects related to the industry and to build up my experience. Back then, I was attracted with the recruitment post of Cốc Cốc by its orderliness, adequate information about the products’ details and projects that candidates might experience. I applied immediately. I was more impressed with the transparency, speed, extreme dedication, and professionalism of the human resources members. And the most important things that urged me to be determined to join Cốc Cốc at all costs are high-standard requirements for market analysis and optimal technology solutions and opportunities to be hands-on with industry problems such as analysis and types of text data, customer segmentation, and especially to optimize the recommendation system in various products. 

Working as a Data Scientist, I participated diverse projects: analyze and process language data to support an e-commerce product, build predict model to censor advertising contents, and analyze and build model of user behavior to create the most convenient experience through recommendation system. I also research and propose projects on assessing market campaigns by varied methods.  

 

The project that is most impressive to me is the first project that I joined Cốc Cốc as a Data Scientist - product search system on e-commerce platform, https://muarenhat.vn. I felt lucky when my team leader and product manager explained about the details of projects and was eager to support me. As a result, I could apply my knowledge and experience when I was a graduate student and PhD student to solve the problem in the most optimal solution. 

Cốc Cốc is the first company that I work full-time after my graduation. I think the first moments that I dealt with when starting to work is not only problems for female who are pursuing career in IT industry, but also for all new graduates. It is the huge difference between academic environment and business environment; those are pressures from deadlines outcomes from real projects in the company. Especially being a newbie, I needed time to understand problems and to select appropriate approach. Another challenge for me is that all projects for Data Scientist at Cốc Cốc required comprehensive skills from analyzing data, building model and evaluate model through technical indexes and products, and finally deploying model into system. They help us to do research ourselves and sharpen our skills to meet the requirements.  

 

In my Data Scientist team, everyone is encouraged to share ideas, to exchange opinions as well as obstacles, to present ongoing and previous projects and even to propose potential projects that we want to join. Our team members all have unique strengths and are assisted not only in company projects but also in intensive development and career orientation. I have reached a new horizon of knowledge while working with other members, and especially while attending the weekly Seminars which share professional knowledge. The culture "Sharing is caring" of Coc Coc also makes me more open and motivated to research, explore and share my knowledge with everyone, help each other to grow together. 

 

I also feel special attention from team Lead and the seniors in my team for new members like me. Mr. Phuong – my former team leader spent a lot of time talking and getting to know me to understand my educational background and experience, to assign me projects that are suitable for my career orientation. He also allowed me to do the tasks that I want to cultivate and improve. I think this is indeed a valuable opportunity that it is not easy to find in any company on the market. 

I think the key matter is that woman need to clearly determine her career orientation. Let’s take me as an example, I understand my strengths in research area and model suggestion, so I decided to focus on developing myself in this field.
